FAQs
About Our Pieces
What does "vintage" vs. "antique" mean? These terms have specific meanings in the jewelry world. A piece is generally considered antique if it is 100 years old or more. Vintage typically refers to pieces that are at least 20 years old but less than 100 years old.
At Poet Fine Jewellery, we use these terms carefully and accurately to describe our pieces so you always have a clear sense of what you're purchasing.
Sizing & Adjustments
How do I know what ring size I need? We recommend visiting a local jeweler to get professionally sized before purchasing. Keep in mind that ring size can vary depending on the width of the band — wider bands typically fit more snugly, so you may need to size up.
Can rings be resized? Unless otherwise noted in the product listing, our rings should be sizeable by a reputable jeweler. We strongly recommend trying on the ring with your jeweler present before committing to any sizing, as they can advise on the best fit and whether resizing is appropriate for that particular piece.
Do you offer sizing services? We do not offer sizing services ourselves. We recommend working with a trusted local jeweler for any adjustments.
Can vintage pieces be resized? We do not offer sizing services on vintage pieces, and we recommend caution when resizing antique or vintage jewelry. If a vintage listing has specific sizing notes, please refer to those before purchasing. When in doubt, consult a jeweler who specializes in vintage pieces.
Stone Sizes
Why don't you list carat weights for stones? In many cases, we do not state the carat weight of stones in our listings. Because our pieces are often vintage or antique, obtaining an accurate carat weight would require removing the stone from its setting — a process that could compromise the integrity of the piece. We believe in preserving these beautiful settings exactly as they are.
Can you provide stone measurements? Absolutely! We are happy to provide stone measurements in millimeters. Please reach out to us before purchasing and we'll do our best to provide the details you need.
Metals & Stones Testing
Do you test your pieces for metal purity and stone authenticity? Yes! We test all gold pieces for purity and clearly state the karat in each listing, so you always know exactly what you're purchasing. We also test all stones for authenticity, so you can shop with confidence knowing that what you see is what you get.
Gemological Certification
Do your pieces come with certification or gemological reports? We do not offer GIA certification or other gemological reports for our pieces. As with carat weight, obtaining a formal certification would require removing the stone from its setting — something we are not willing to do for vintage and antique pieces, as it risks compromising the integrity of the setting. We believe in keeping these pieces intact and as original as possible.
If you have specific questions about a stone, we are happy to share what we know about the piece and provide measurements in millimeters.
Purchasing
Do you offer layaway or payment plans? Yes! We offer flexible payment plans through Shop Pay Installments, available at checkout. Shop Pay allows you to split your purchase into installments, making it easier to bring home the piece you love. Simply select Shop Pay at checkout to see your options.
Care & Maintenance
How should I care for vintage jewelry? Vintage jewelry is best cleaned gently with warm water and mild soap — avoid harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, and steam cleaners, as these can damage delicate vintage settings and stones. After cleaning, pat dry with a soft cloth.
We also recommend having your pieces professionally cleaned by a reputable jeweler every one to two years. A professional cleaning will help restore shine and, just as importantly, give a jeweler the opportunity to check that all settings are secure and the piece is in good condition.
